Maverick Stone redesign

For some weird reason I wanted to redesign Maverick and make him short and fatter. I had a lot of fun recreating him. These are just a few drawings and a sculpey model I did of him. Ill will have to create a post with some more final drawings and all of the sketches that lead to the final result. He went through quite a few changes and I must say, I am much more satisfied with this result. Maybe I will even get around to doing some final animation with the guy.

I hope you all enjoy, "life's a garden dig it"-jd

FOCUS a film by Stephen Camardella

FOCUS, something we should all be minding some attention. I know it is very appropriate for me at this point in my life, that is I am on my way to a new chapter. As important as it is for me it is probably even more important for Rupert who is the central and only character in the short film FOCUS, directed by the brilliant Stephen Camardella . Rupert is oblivious to anything but the compositions he is finding in his SLR as he journeys up a quite precarious mountain, and his near match with death makes him reconsider what is really important in life. The film isn't viewable quite yet, but be patient, it will come soon to a monitor near you.

My duty on the film was to create the backgrounds, from concept to the final matte painting. It was such an enjoyable experience, and I made a a few great friends in the process.

When viewing the final image, you might be saying, "wow Lyle, you have no idea about light direction" The light is coming from all directions intentionally. The painting stretched all the way around the central mountain where everything is taking place. It was very interesting to figure out how to pull this off. But with a little bit of thinking and a lot of trial and error Steve and I made it happen.

I hope you all enjoy the results and until next time, keep on keepin on.

Just a sketch of a scary elementary school principal. I guess it could technically be whatever. Sorry I don't have more to say about this one.

Progression of the SEDUCER

The Seducer is coming around. He is still very much in the development phase, and of course needs further simplification and a name (any suggestions ???). I tend to think in detail and need to break out of that habit to make this guy suitable for 2d.
But I think what is successful for this character thus far is his attitude and look. He came around to really come off in that creepy, last guy you would ever want to hit on you sort of way.

Thanks for checking in! :)

The Seducer

So I have just graduated from SCAD, and since I do not have a job in line quite yet, my goal is to learn animation as quickly as possible. But I am taking the first step to develop a character. I have a couple in mind, and this guy is a very strong candidate.

He is heavily inspired from SNL's "The Continental" and Dudley Moore's role in "Foul Play." Both characters were intent on seducing women, but were largely unsuccessful. This guy is still in the works, I just figured I would put out a precursor to the final. I think he might need to come off more creepy than this, but this is the general direction I think I want to take him.

Well, If you don't mind, let me know what you think, and any stories or advice would be greatly appreciated!
